Initial Oral Examination
Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal exam (probing), diagnosis and treatment recommendations. We will also take a full mouth series of x-rays (18 films), which includes diagnosis of the anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth as well as bite-wing x-rays for the diagnosis of inter-proximal (between) decay of posterior teeth. Diagnosis of impacted wisdom teeth or 3rd molars is available with a panoramic x-ray (panogram).
If you needed major surgery and had a choice between a doctor with minimal technical support or a doctor with up to date, state of the art technical support - which would you choose? Dr. Leitner and his staff have made every effort to stay current with dental technologies. A major stepping stone in this direction was the introduction of Global surgical microscopes in 2004. At that time Dr Leitner became a member of Academy of Microscopic Enhanced Dentistry (AMED). Microscopes in the treatment rooms have allowed Dr Leitner to offer a variety of new enhancements to patients. This means more precise treatment for you.
With microscopes Dr. Leitner can view images at 20x their normal magnitude. This makes it much easier to find and treat decay, cracks in teeth (a leading cause of tooth loss in adults), calculus (tartar) on the sides of teeth, abscessed or infected teeth which may require root canal therapy, and other dental situations.
Using the microscope Dr. Leitner can effectively use the latest dental technology to serve all your dental needs.
Occlusion & T-Scan
In 1987, Tekscan developed T-Scan® , the first ever grid-based sensor technology designed specifically for occlusal (bite) analysis. Tekscan created this powerful diagnostic tool in response to the needs of dentists seeking an accurate way to dynamically measure occlusion (bite). Today, after numerous enhancements, the T-Scan II is the only solution available on the market to offer instantaneous occlusal data, including timing and force. Using this tool Dr. Leitner can offer patients advanced treatments and treatment options.
What is balanced occlusion?
Dental occlusion refers to the way your teeth meet when you bite together. All teeth should come in contact with one another simultaneously with minimal force. When this does not happen, your occlusion is unbalanced and problems may result.
Some effects of poor occlusion:
- Damaged restorations
- Excess force on implants can lead to early failure
- Teeth can become loose or gums may recede
- TMJ-Clicking, grinding, or pain in your jaw joints, ringing or buzzing in your ears, and difficulty in opening or closing your mouth could all be due to your teeth not meeting each other properly
- Flattened, worn teeth
- Continual sensitivity of your teeth to temperature changes
- Headaches and Tempromandibular Joint (TMJ) Pain
We will work with an implant specialist to create an implant for a missing single tooth, missing multiple teeth, or replace a removable appliance.
Deep bleaching is the most effective teeth whitening technique ever! If you have been disappointed with results in the past, or if you’ve been waiting for the right technique to come along, have we got a new miracle for you! If you want truly white teeth, this is the real deal! Dr. Leitner has been using a new technique of whitening for patients who have experienced acute sensitivity to whitening procedures in the past. This technique enables patients who have previously been unable to tolerate whitening procedures to safely whiten their teeth with total comfort.
Crowns and Veneers
You can have a new smile with all-porcelain crowns (empressed material) on the anterior (front) teeth. For the posterior (back) teeth, we use porcelain fused to metal crowns.
Tooth-colored fillings that are light cures to match your teeth. Amalgam: Silver-colored fillings, more durable material.
We perform root canals on anterior and most posterior teeth.
You should have a standard cleaning (above the gumline) at least twice a year. Periodontal treatment treats infection under the gum tissue of the tooth roots. Dr Leitner offers two options for treating periodontal disease: Traditional scaling and root planning, or Periolase. Periolase is treatment with a laser that has the potential to regenerate bone around the tooth root. It differs from traditional periodontal surgery in the fact that there is no cutting or sewing of the soft tissue or bone. If it has been over a year since your last cleaning, we will do a thorough periodontal exam to diagnose any gum infections.
Whether you are an athlete or casual sports participant, you should wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth. If you grind your teeth while you sleep, a bite guard will help reduce symptoms of TMJ. We custom make mouth guards in both soft and hard materials.
Removable Dental Prosthesis
For missing teeth, we can make dentures or removable partials for you.
